'Wreath with Birds' – and wild roses

'Wreath with Birds' – wild roses with exotic birds. A hand coloured Berlin Woolwork pattern by L. W. Wittieh (No. 124) circa 1840. Only the finest patterns were hand coloured. The first Berlin Woolwork patterns were printed in Berlin in 1804 and were introduced into England shortly afterwards, reaching their peak of popularity in about the 1830s.
