War memorial about to be unveiled outside Derby works, December 1921. The photograph was taken during a speech by General Lawrence. The Midland Railway and the other railway companies all commemorated their workers who had been killed in action. Large crowds turned out for this service, as the horrors of the war were still fresh in everyone's minds.
