Two-piece bolero suit by Dolly Tree for Virginia Bruce
A two-piece bolero suit designed by Dolly Tree for Virginia Bruce in Woman Against Woman (1938) exemplified the continued popularity of the bolero at the time. Made of black wool with a white crepe blouse, the notched overlay collar of bengaline and the brilliant scarlet silk crepe cumberband defined the waistline, giving a gay colour contrast to the fall?s chic black. Accessories featured an immense black wool bag with patent leather trim; a pillbox hat of black wool with scarlet coloured pompom matching the cumberband and a lapel flower.
