The bridges and the facade of the Louvre at 5.15, Paris, 1839.

Soleil couchant'. (The bridges and the Louvre Gallery at 5.15 pm with the sun setting). Daguerreotypes were images produced as direct positives on sensitised metal plates. The process involved a long exposure and only produced one image. Daguerreotype photography was one of two pioneering photographic processes announced in 1839, along with William Henry Fox Talbot's (1800-1877) calotype process.
