Studio photo of three patients

Photograph by a Margate stuido photographer of three Belgian patients. They are wearing their uniform overcaots and two are wearing caps. Numbers have been written above them on the photograph. From left to right these are 2,1,3. On the reverse the following is written 'Jean Simon, 1; Cappellen Prosper, 2; Hoebanex Joseph, 3. Birchington 2 novembre 1914. En souvenir de notre agreéable séjour passé au Quex-Park'. These three men were patients of the Westgate VAD, who ran the hospital at Quex Park from 15 November 1914 until they moved their work to Westgate on 4 November 1914. These three men signed the Powell-Cotton Museum visitors' book. Cappelen signed on 21 October 1914, Simon and Hoebanex signed on 22 October. The Quex Park VAD Hospital opened on 15 October 1914 and closed on 31 January 1919. The hospital was run by Kent/178, the Birchington Detachment (apart from the first 3-4 weeks when the Westgate detachment worked there). The Commandant was Hannah Powell-Cotton (1881-1964), wife of Major Percy HG Powell-Cotton (1866-1940) of Quex Park, founder of the Powell-Cotton Museum.
