Stubby Squid
Rossia pacifica, the stubby squid, is found across the north Pacific in deep waters down to 300 meters depth. Bobtail squids are actually not squids but are more closely related to cuttlefish. They do not have a cuttle bone within their bodies for support, like cuttlefish, and have eight tentacles. This individual was trawled between 500 meters depth and the surface in Monterey, California (2007).
