Ruth Hussey in Flight Command (1940)

Ruth Hussey in Flight Command (1940) wearing a dress designed by Dolly Tree and suitable for either afternoon dress or as a dinner date. Made of steel grey crepe, it had full graceful sleeves with extra-wide cuffs, which were the keynote to the simply-cut gown, which keep the slim silhouette, yet achieved fullness through the shirring. The street length skirt was flared. The V neckline of the dress is caught in a bow made of the same material as the dress and another bow ties the wide belt, which fastened at the side. Fullness comes from the bodice yoke, which continues to the back of the dress. A narrow band on the cuffs ties in the same type of bow as at the neck and waistline. It was described as simply elegant and a prime example of how clothes that were attractive and practical form the basis of a contemporary wardrobe.
