Red-Tailed Hawk
Close up of a red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) caught during a bird banding operation. These operations, also known as "ringing schemes," allow scientists to study many aspects of the birds' lives in the wild (including migration, longevity, mortality, population and feeding behavior) by re-finding ringed birds at different times and locations.
