President Boris Yeltsin came to Karelia on Saturady to spend part of his summer vacation in the lakeland republic. Yeltsin stayed, as the last year, at the Shuiskaya Chupa residence 20 kilometeres from the Karelian capital Petrozavodsk. The complex stands in a beautiful pine forest on the picturesque coast of the Karelian Ukshezero Lake. The word "chupa" means a distant nook of a bay in the Karelian language. Ukshezero is linked by sounds with neighbouring lakes and rivers. Yeltsin's recreation programme is set mostly in scenic woods abounding in berries and mushrooms and fish-rich lakes and rivers. As for the weather a southern cyclone is coming over the weekend with downpours, thunderstorms and winds of seven-12 metres a second. The temperature is forecast to be 10-15 degrees in the night and 18-23 at daytime through Monday. Rains are expected to stop on Tuesday, with a spell of dry sunny weather and an air temperature of 27 degrees to last until the end of the week.
