Peace ceremony in the highlands, Papua New Guinea
Tribesmen offer a pig in a peace ceremony to greet an Australian patrol in the Chimbu area of the Eastern Highlands, Papua New Guinea in 1939. Traditionally visitors to these primitive people would be either welcomed by a shower of arrows or more peacefully as in this situation. Photographed by Australian patrol office Ian Skinner.
