Service at Paddington station war memorial 1922. Over 25,000 Great Western Railway workers were killed in the First World War. The Great Western Railway and the other railway companies commemorated their workers who had been killed or injured in action. Large crowds turned out for the service, as the horrors of the war were still fresh in everyone's minds.
