Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus
This color enhanced sagittal (lateral-from the side) MRI image shows normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) (purple) which is a form of communicating hydrocephalus. This is most often seen in the elderly and produces symptoms of gait apraxia, urinary incontinence and dementia. It is a potentially reversible cause of dementia if it can be successfully treated with ventricular shunting (siphoning off cerebral spinal fluid-CSF).
