NIPAH VIRUS INFECTION
Using immunohistochemical (IHC) technique, this photomicrograph of a canine renal (kidney) tissue specimen, revealed some of the cytoarchitectural histopathologic changes associated with a Nipah virus infection. Infection with Nipah virus has been associated with an encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) characterized by fever and drowsiness and more serious central nervous system disease, such as coma, seizures, and inability to maintain breathing.
