Marie Therese of Angouleme, Duchesse de Bourbon, early 19th century? Creator: Unknown.
Marie Therese of Angouleme, Duchesse de Bourbon, early 19th century? Portrait of Marie Therese of Angouleme, Duchesse de Bourbon (1778-1851), daughter of King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette of France. She married her first cousin, Louis Antoine, Duke of Angoulême. The inscription in the oval frame states that she was born at Versailles on 19 Decembre 1778. The letter from her below is possibly to her uncle, the future Charles X: 'Oui mon Oncle, c'est celle dont ils ont laissé périr Le Pere, La Mere, La Tante, qui vous Demande à Genoux Leur Grace et la paix". (Yes my uncle, it is she whose father, mother and aunt were allowed to die, who asks you on her knees [to grant] their grace and [their] peace). Her parents were guillotined during the French Revolution in 1793.
