
Marburg Virus
Marburg virus, which causes a severe type of hemorrhagic fever. It was discovered in Marburg in 1967, when an outbreak of hemorrhagic fever occurred in laboratories that had imported African green monkeys for research and for preparing polio vaccine. The first people infected had been exposed to either the monkeys or their tissues. Colorized version of image number 2S4370.
