L'Ambition le domine, 1806
Ambition, a naked woman with serpents for hair, torments King George III, depicted as a tiger. In the background the King of Prussia sits with a bloody nose, as Mercury offers gold to Tsar Alexander. This French print accuses Britain of paying Prussia to fight on their behalf. Prime Minister William Pitt's Third Coalition against France was constructed in 1805 between Britain, Russia and Prussia. The Prussian army had recently suffered a terrible defeat at the battle of Jena
