
Hooded Merganser (Lophodytes cucullatus)
The Hooded Merganser (Lophodytes cucullatus) is a small duck with a slender pointed bill. The male Hooded Merganser has a white fan-shaped black-bordered crest, blackish body, rusty flanks, and white breast with two black stripes. It breeds from Alaska, Canada southward to Oregon, and Nova Scotia south to Arkansas. World Wildlife Zoo, Phoenix, Arizona.
