HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS

There are two types of herpes simplex viruses. Type 1 causes labial herpes involving the mouth and gums. The type 2 herpes virus is responsible for genital eruptions and can be transmitted to the infant during delivery. The risk is brain damage in the infant due to encephalitis. Herpes virus contains deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) surrounded by a symmetrical cubic capsule.
