Herodotus, Ancient Greek Historian, Father of History
Herodotus shown here reading his famous "History" to the assembled Greeks. Herodotus (485-425 BC) was an ancient Greek historian, often called the father of history. His history of the invasion of Greece by the Persian Empire was the first attempt at narrative history and was the beginning of all Western history writing. He was the first historian to collect his materials systematically, test their accuracy to a certain extent and arrange them in a well-constructed and vivid narrative.
