HEPATITIS A VIRUS

A virus is an infectious agent composed of a single type of neucleic acid which uses its genetic material (RNA or DNA) for replication. Hepatitis A has a short incubation period and causes inflammation of the liver. The hepatitis A virus is the least serious of the hepatitis viruses, and does not have a chronic stage. It is found in infected water, shellfish and fecal matter and is transmitted through the oral route (fecal-oral contamination).
