
Hawaiian Coot (Fulica alai)
Hawaiian Coot (Fulica alai), Ka'elepulu Wetlands, O'ahu, Hawaii. This endangered bird is a close relative of the American Coot and was recognized as a distinct species in 1993. The Hawaiian Coot eats tadpoles, insects, small fish, and the seeds and leaves of aquatic plants.
