Fossilized Tree Trunk
Piece of a fossilized tree trunk in exposed rocks on the beach of the Curio Bay site of a fossil forest in the Catlins coast of south-eastern Southland, New Zealand. The fossilized trees date back to the middle Jurassic and are found mainly in green sandstone where the wood has been replaced by silica, making the fossils resistant to erosion.
