
Five-storied Pagoda, Senso-ji Temple, Tokyo
Senso-ji Temple, the official name of Asakusa Kannon, a Buddhist temple dedicated to the popular Buddhist god, the bodhisattva Kannon, the symbol of compassion and relief from suffering. The sprawling temple grounds are located in the Asakusa section of Tokyo and draw many thousands of visitors daily. The five-story pagoda which rises from the top of the two story temple office building was rebuilt in 1975 according to the design of the original, which was lost to an air raid in 1945.
