Emperor Penguins, Aptenodytes forsteri, on fast ice adjacent to Snow Hill Island in the Weddell Sea, Antarctica, October, 2007. The chicks, now off of their parent's feet, are 50-90 days of age. Size varies markedly with the amount of food received from parents.
