Confederates on Parade

The 4th of July parade in Faith, North Carolina, was perhaps the most famous of the state's patriotic parades. There were marching bands, fire engines, and North Carolina National Guard tanks. But one of the most memorable units was this small Color Guard with a Confederate regimental flag. The Confederate flag was in transition in the 1960's, from being a historical flag to one representing those who supported segregation. But here in a small southern town was silence and respect as the Color Guard passed.
