Cactus Spines With Ice Crystals
Close-up image of the spines of a saguaro cactus along the Finger Rock Trail in the Santa Catalina Mountains of southeast Arizona. A somewhat rare overnight snowfall left the landscape in Finger Rock Canyon covered in white. As the snow melted, these ice crystals remained attached to the very sharp spines which cover the cactus in strategically placed rows. This image is unique as these giants of the sonoran desert are normally associated with a hot, dry climate.
