BRAIN, DRAWING
Love at first sight - stage 1 (see image no. 11896 05 for stage 2 and no. 11897 05 for stage 3). Illustration of what occurs in the brain when a subject falls in love. The subject sees the person. The data received by the eye is translated into an electrical signal transmitted by the optic nerve to the thalamus and then to the visual cortex. The thalamus sends information to the hippocampus, enabling the subject to make a comparison with stored memories. This mechanism occurs also in the first stage (alarm reaction) of the stress response (perception of a danger).
