Beach-side Memorial to Lion-sur-Mer, Sword Beach
8th Brigade of 3rd British Division was the leading force on Sword Beach. Its gaps between the 6th Airborne Division on its left and the 3rd Canadian on its right were filled by units of 1st Special Service Brigade. Lion was liberated on 7 June by a combined infantry and 41st Royal Marine Commando assault. This is the Liberation Memorial (hence the 'V' shape). It was unveiled on 6 June 1984.
