The AIDS crisis reflected in newspaper headlines of the day; 1985. AIDS was first reported on by the CDC and the media in 1981. It quickly became an epidemic, particularly affecting gay and inner city populations, as well as intravenous drug users. Victims often became socially isolated as a result of the stigma around the disease.
